The National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) on June 12, 2024, approved the merger of two airline companies AIX Connect Pvt. Ltd. Owner of AirAsia Airlines, with Air India Express Ltd. after they obtained ‘No Objection Certificate’ from the Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA) and Director General of Civil Aviation (DCGA) along with the Registrar of the Companies of Delhi and Haryana and Regional Director of the Northern Region.
The Proposal was filed before the court under Sections 230 and 232 of the Companies Act, 2013.
Air Asia operates as a Domestic low-cost carrier while Air India Express operates as an International low-cost carrier.
The NCLT asked for the completion of the merger within 9 months of the filing of this plea.
